Rice Crispy Treat Easter Eggs
Have some sticky fun with your kids, decorate Rice Crispy Treat Easter Eggs this year!
Now this was a lot of fun! Make sure you like getting a little bit messy because the process sure was sticky, but the memories are so worth it! I also tried a less messy option, and will show you both ways!
I got this idea from The Pioneer Woman, she had so much fun doing this with her son, I thought it would be fun to give it a try!
What To Buy
- A box of Rice Krispie cereal
- 10 oz package of marshmallows
- Butter
- Plastic Easter eggs (or an easter egg cookie cutter- less messy version)
- Easter colored sprinkles
- Cooking spray

The How To
First grab a large microwave safe bowl. Pour in the whole bag of marshmallows and 1/3 cup of butter. Microwave for 2 minutes, and stir with a spatula. Then microwave for 1 more minute. (This is the official Rice Krispie recipe)
Pour 6 cups of Rice Krispies into the marshmallow mixture. Stir to combine. Let cool until it’s manageable with your hands. Then, spray your hands with cooking spray and the inside of the plastic easter egg. (I only needed to do this one time throughout the whole process)
Take a spoonful of the Rice Krispie mixture and place it into the top and bottom halves of the plastic easter egg. You want to overfill it, then squeeze it shut, so the mixture packs together. Release the shell and you have a perfect easter egg!
Continue until you’re out of Rice Krispie mixture. Let them set for 5-10 minutes. Then pour sprinkles into small bowls or plates. Let your kids decorate any way they want! This is the really fun part!
Alternate Version
If the plastic easter egg version seems too messy, you can do the same recipe but simply pack the Rice Krispy mixture into an easter egg cookie cutout. Let your kids decorate them with sprinkles after and it’ll be just as fun!
This recipe makes about 24 eggs!
Storage
Rice Crispy Treat eggs keep for up to 2 days in an airtight container.
You can freeze for up to 6 weeks. Store in an airtight container separating the treats with wax paper. When you’d like to serve, let thaw for 30 minutes before serving.
I hope you enjoyed this recipe! Let me know how it turned out in the comments! Have fun!
