Single Serving Stovetop Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy like almond, oat, coconut milk, or water
  • 2 ½ tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 heaping tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp sugar adjust to taste, for heathy swap use ½ tbsp maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • whipped cream or marshmallows optional, for topping

Instructions

On the Stovetop

  • Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan, pour 1 cup of milk and heat it over medium-low heat. Stir occasionally.
  • Mix the Cocoa Powder: Once the milk is warm (not boiling), add cocoa powder, semi-sweet chocolate chips, sugar, vanilla and a pinch of salt. Whisk well until the cocoa powder is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  • Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into your favorite mug. Top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cocoa powder, if desired.

Microwave Instructions:

  • Heat the Milk: Heat your milk in the microwave for 60-90 seconds.
  • Add the Ingredients: Add the cocoa, chocolate chips, sugar, vanilla and salt. Whisk until well combined. Enjoy!
