The How To:

We’ve all been there, you have spaghetti on the menu for the evening. You get some nice garlic bread, boil some pasta and warm up a jar of pasta sauce over the stove. You try to pour a few different seasonings in the jarred pasta sauce- and it still tastes decent, but not amazing.

I’ve got two items for you that will take your pasta sauce from run of the mill to fresh and delicious!

Onion. and Green Pepper.

That is all you need to make a delicious fresh tasting pasta sauce!

I got this recipe trick from my mother in law. She has always had the best fresh tasting spaghetti sauce and she was more than happy to share her secret with me!

First you dice up half an onion and half of a green pepper. You can make it a small dice if you’d like to have smaller chunks in your pasta or slice it larger if you’d like a chunkier pasta sauce.

Next you place them in a pan on the stove and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. After that, add your jar of sauce to the pan, stir and let simmer on medium low heat for 20-25 minutes. Place a lid on it so the sauce doesn’t splatter everywhere. You can lift the lid a couple times while its cooking to stir the sauce around making sure the sides don’t burn.

And that is all you need to do to take make a jarred pasta sauce taste fresh and amazing! I hope you liked this recipe! Let me know what you think in the comments.

Tip:

If you’d like to add meat to your sauce. Simply cook up the ground beef and add the diced peppers and onions a few minutes before its completely browned. Finish browning and from there add the sauce and simmer 20-25 minutes.

Tip:

You can freeze this! If you have left over sauce, just place it back in the pasta sauce jar and freeze for up to 3 months. When you are ready to use again, bring it out on your counter to thaw for 6 hours. Or microwave in 60 second increments, stirring each time.
