Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, white sugar, baking powder, salt, and mini chocolate chips.
Step 3: Combine the Wet Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour in the milk, oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Whisk together the wet ingredients. Then stir until the entire mixture is just combined—be careful not to overmix!
Step 4: Shape the Scones
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
Step 5: Add the Topping
Brush the tops of the scones with milk, then sprinkle with the combined brown and white sugar.
Step 6: Bake
Bake for 18-23 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown. Let them cool slightly before serving.
